Who is Alyssa Nicole?

It looks like I started a "New" tradition in doing a blog on Abby Elizabeth Grace, my beautiful granddaughter! So today, I'm going to introduce Ewe to Abby's sister, Alyssa Nicole. I hope Ewe enjoy her as much as I do! She is a bundle of Joy, & has had, at the very least, an extremely "Adventurous" 8 years.

I am Alyssa's absolute favorite Lady!
Alyssa is very helpful to her Mom, just as Ladybugs are to farmers!
First of all, Alyssa Nicole is a very joyful young lady. Webster defines Joyful as:"Experiencing, causing, or showing joy; Happy."
Alyssa Nicole is the "life of the party" at home, having a sense of humor that keeps her family in "stitches"! Her joy is also contagious at church, where she loves worshipping her God through song!

Don't Worry, Be Happy!
It takes Alyssa less muscles to Smile, than to Frown!
Alyssa Nicole Loves Life!
Next, Alyssa Nicole loves to express her Joy through "dancing like a ballerina"! She also enjoys gymnastics, soccer, & swimming.
Ewe know I Look Good! Just call me Princess!
Expressing Joy to others  keeps Ewe "On Ewer Toes."
Dancing is really "Hip"! Oh, why don't Ewe join me?
Alyssa Nicole also reveals her "zest for life" through outlandish displays of Fashion! Creativity abounds in this hip fashion" diva"!
I Love the material in this outfit! It's " Shear Delight"!
I'm not "pulling the wool" over ewer eyes, Alyssa Nicole loves "colorful" threads.
Alyssa Nicole lives a "Purr"- tee "balanced"life!
Finally, Alyssa Nicole loves her family. She's very obedient to her parents & enjoys spending time with her siblings. Compassionate & kind, she loves spending time with her younger brother, Sam. I think Ewe will all agree, Alyssa Nicole is a "one-of-a-kind" design!
Stretch the Limits of Ewer life- Be Joyful!
Sheep are the happiest when the Shepherd is in close proximity! They know the secret that Alyssa Nicole practices & what the Scripture teaches:" In the presence of the Lord there is Joy forever more."

God is Good! Being around my Shepherd makes me HAPPY!

Joy is the by-product of a heart fully trusting in the Good Shepherd. Enjoy His presence today as Ewe draw near to Him, as his child.

"Love is in the Air"

For Valentine's Day, I thought we should take a few moments to reflect on the meaning of True Love. Hopefully, Ewe will have a "heart" for it!

Love begins in the home, bonding with the one that has given Ewe birth..

"Greater Love has no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends". Shepherds regularly put their life on the line because of their love for the Sheep.

I'm so glad I found Ewe before Mr. Wolf  did!
Stay Close & stay safe! "Herds of a feather, flock together"!
"Love Suffers Long & is Kind".

I Love Ewe but could Ewe "Get off my Back"?

Let us Lick ewer Tummy & maybe it will feel better!
"Love does not envy; Love does not parade itself, is not puffed up."
I'm Not Puffed up!

As Ewe can clearly see, I'm very Content!

Bears all things, Believes all things, Hopes all things, Endures all things.

Babysitting was not supposed to be like this!

Don't Ewe Love to Cuddle?

Love Never Fails!
Hold on! I Know Ewe can Make it!
Is this what Ewe consider a Kiss?
As Ewe think about Love today, know that ewer Good Shepherd's hands reveal His Love for Ewe. That should put a smile on ewer face! Happy Valentine's Day!

"And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is LOVE." 1Cor.13:13

Did Ewe Know that we Love each other?

Marsupial Madness 2 !

Opossums are marsupials & are scavengers by nature, very happy to eat any leftovers! Their diet consists of carrion, fruit, nuts, & an assortment of small insects, frogs, & plants. They are sometimes referred to as "Nature's little Sanitation Engineers", due to their consumption of dead animals & garbage in the environment.

I find bananas quite appealing!
Mom, what are we having to eat? Are we going to "Dumpsters" again?
Opossums are nocturnal, doing most of their foraging at night. They will hunt for food during the daylight hours, only if food is scarce. They are excellent climbers, using their prehensile (gripping) tail & their opposable thumbs to assist them in negotiating various obstacles.

I do my best work under the cover of darkness!
Bedtime stories are a test of Endurance for Mom!
Male Opossums are known as "jacks" while females are called
"jills". The babies are called "joeys", just like their Australian relatives. A group of opossums are known as a "passel". Opossums may "hiss" when initially threatened, however, they are very passive by nature & rarely aggressive.
I love climbing & enjoy "branching out" every chance I get!
The life span of Opossums is only 2-4 years, one of the shortest among mammals of similar size. The biggest culprits responsible for their demise are predators & cars! Opossums are also resistant to rattlesnake & copperhead bites! They are also less likely to carry rabies & interestingly enough, are said to rank higher than dogs in intelligence.

Don't Ewe say a word! I forgot to shave this morning!
Adoniram Judson Jr. was born on Aug.9,1788, to a preacher. He excelled at college, where he met a devout deist, skeptic, & friend, Jacob Eames. Through study & Eames' influence, Judson strayed from the faith. Some time later, while traveling & staying overnight in an inn, he was shocked one morning to find that his friend, Eames, had been violently ill & died in the next room. This shook him to the core, & dramatically changed his life.
I returned to the God of my youth & met my bride, Ann
Adoniram & Ann Judson were married on Feb.5, 1812, & within 2 weeks, the happy couple were off to India as America's first foreign missionaries. They believed that God had called them to preach the Gospel in a spiritually dark land. This marked  the beginning of their missionary adventure, which would send them to Burma & require tremendous Endurance over the next 37 years of ministry.  Webster defines Endurance as:" the ability to last, continue, or remain". The Judson's certainly had this "staying  power!"

The king outlawed Christianity in Burma & Ewe could lose ewer head !
During Judson's 37 years in Burma, Adoniram endured similar experiences as that of the Apostle Paul. He spent his first six years translating the Scriptures into Burmese. Finally, the first convert, Maung Nau, was baptized. What rejoicing took place, especially as a few more converts were baptized. Unfortunately, England went to war with Burma , so Judson & his assistant were arrested & put in a "Death" prison for 17 months. Burmese prisons were horrid death traps, very often housing 100 men in one room with no window.

Prison was a test of Endurance!
Judson was encouraged by Ann during his harsh treatment in prison. She often bribed the ruthless guard "Mr.Spotted Face". He kept Judson in 3 sets of chains, with his ankles in elevated stocks.  At 3PM every day, "Mr. Spotted Face" would pull out a prisoner to execute! Judson would often recite lines from Madame Guyon..to calm himself. He was finally released to help translate a peace treaty to end the war. After enduring the death of his wife & child within two & one-half years of each other, Judson finished the translation of the entire Bible & died at the age of 62.

No place I see, but to fulfill
in life and death Thy lovey will
No succor in my woes I want
Except what Thou art pleased to grant.
Our days are numbered-let us spare
Our anxious hearts a needless care;
'Tis Thine to number out our days,
ours to give them to Thy praise
Ann encouraged Adoniram in prison during her visits.

Sheep lack the endurance that the Judson's had built into their character. If a sheep is accidently cast down, there is no way it will endure, without the Shepherd coming to its aid, & turning it right-side up.
"Why art thou cast down Oh my soul". This is "Baaa...D"!

When Ewe see the Endurance displayed by the Judson's, & by our Good Shepherd while He was in the Garden, we can take comfort. He is able to take Ewe through whatever this day unveils!

"We are hard pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;"

Marsupial Madness!

Opossums are fascinating creatures that are the only marsupials on the North American continent. They illustrate the character trait of Availability. Webster's definition of Availability is: "the state of being present or ready for immediate use." The female opossums display this character trait, particularly in the care of their young.

Stay away from me until the kids are out of the pouch!
Historically, opossum were identified by Capt. John Smith in 1608. Smith coined opossum, from the Algonquian word  "opassum", a term meaning " white animal". The Captain wrote in his notes, "An Opassum hath a head like a swine & a taile like a rat & is of the bignes of a Cat.Under her belly she hath a bagge, wherein she lodgeth, carrieth, & sucketh her young."

I'm like the Old Woman in the Shoe, had so many kids, she didn't know what to do!
As Captain of Jamestown, I named that marsupial from an Algonquian term.
Opossums live solitary lives, apart from mating, & the mother is the primary & only caregiver! She has a short 11-13 day gestation period, before approximately 21 embryos are born & begin the climb to their mother's pouch. At birth, the embryos are 10 millimeters long & weigh .13 of a gram, which is lighter than a paper clip! They don't all survive, due to Mom only having 13 nipples. Mom is now "Available" to them 24/7 for up to 6 months!

Ewe know I'm Cute! Ewe should see me hang by my tail.
An Average litter is comprised of 8 cute & helpless babies.
Opossums remain in the pouch for up to 2 months before hanging outside the pouch, riding on their mother's back. They begin to eat solid food at 75 days, & are fully weaned at 90-95 days. Opossums are omnivorous scavengers, eating both plants & animals. They prefer fruit, insects, & carrion. As Ewe can see, a mother's life of eating bon-bons is over once the litter arrives. She has 2 litters a year & has them literally hanging all over her for 3 months per litter!
We have a tail that is strong enough to help us hang upside down!
Opossums have 50 teeth, which is more than any other mammal! Their face features beady black eyes, a pointed nose, & "Mickey Mouse" ears. Opossums are famous for "playing dead", when threatened, attacked, or injured. They will curl up in a ball, lips turned back, & saliva appears around their mouth. They secrete a nasty fluid from their anal glands that emits a putrid odor. This behavior is all involuntary, similar to a defense mechanism.

I sure hope this works, otherwise I'm really DEAD!
Sheep are much the same as the Opossum babies. They are born quite helpless & require constant care & Availability from their mothers & their Shepherds to insure survival!

I'm so thankful that my Mom & my Shepherd are "available" to me!
Today, enjoy the "Availability" of ewer Good Shepherd, who's always ready to assist Ewe, no matter what the need.

"I am the vine & you are the branches. He who abides in Me, & I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing." Jn. 15:5

American Responsibility Bonanza 2!

The American Woodcock is an amazing migratory bird that uses its various assets very "Responsibly". Having only a small frame, the American Woodcock compensates for it by efficiently using its unique eyes, ears, feet, & beak in a world of nature where only the strong survive.

We fly so low that electric wires are our deadliest foe!
The American Woodcock female cares for her clutch of chicks in a  rather responsible fashion. After incubation, she responsibly trains her chicks how to seek food, hide by "freezing", & fly within a five week period of time. She also teaches them how to bring the tasty earthworms up closer to the surface. By beating her wings rapidly on the dry ground, she creates the illusion of a driving rain. When the earthworms sense the vibrations , they will respond by making a beeline for the surface to avoid drowning. Dinner is then served!
Don't Ewe worry my little "chickadees", in 5 weeks Ewe will be out of here!
Don't Ewe admire my Profile? Please don't shoot me!
Peter Cartwright proved to be a fiery example of Responsibility from the early years of our country. His dramatic conversion to Christ & his ability to endure the rigors of a circuit-riding preacher, enabled Peter to be used mightily by God . He boldly shared  the Gospel on the frontier in the early years of our country. Powerful camp meetings revived thousands of men & woman & helped usher in the 2nd Great Awakening.

I can't wait to see what God is going to do!
Peter 's family experienced personal tragedy out on the road one evening, when a tree cracked & crushed their daughter. Although difficult, Peter & his family continued to trust God, even in the midst of tragedy! Peter continued his ministry, preaching over 15,000 sermons, baptizing 12,000 people, & welcoming 10,000 members into the Methodist church in over 50 years of ministry.

God moved in miraculous ways when Peter preached!
In  later years, Peter became increasingly convinced that slavery was wrong for both society & Christians. He could foresee an eventual church split over the issue. So, in 1823, Peter moved his family to Illinois, which was a free state.  He believed there was less chance of his daughters marrying slave owners in a free state. He became friends with Abraham Lincoln, despite defeating him in 1832 for the Illinois legislature. Lincoln returned the favor over a decade later in 1846, defeating Peter in a Congressional race. Peter died on his farm on Sept.25,1872, at the age of 87 years old.
I tried to correct some of society's ills through politics!
One responsible life can change the landscape of souls!
Sheep at times get rebellious, & look for a hole in the fence to escape through. Thankfully, they have a Shepherd who goes after them , before they do some serious damage to themselves.

This brings new meaning to the phrase, "Between a Rock & a Hard Place"!
Responsibility bears good fruit in all of our lives. Thank God we have a Good Shepherd to pattern our lives after. Follow the Master!

"For you were like sheep going astray, but now have returned to the Shepherd & Overseer of your souls."  1 Peter 2:25
