Promising for Sheep?-Take 6!

What did Ewe say about setting the  table?
David has penned the 23rd Psalm as an intimate Shepherd who is well acquainted with sheep. He has included many promises for the flock that closely follows the Shepherd. Provision, protection, & guidance, are all available under the care of the Shepherd. We now look into even more of these "precious promises" available to the sheep under the care of the ever faithful Shepherd.

"Courage is not simply one of the virtues, but the form of every virtue at the testing point."
C.S. Lewis
"Tis well."  Washington's last words, as recorded by Tobias Lear, in his journal (14 December 1799). Washington said this after being satisfied that precautions would be taken against his being buried prematurely: About ten o'clk he made several attempts to speak to me before he could effect it, at length he said, — "I am just going. Have me decently buried; and do not let my body be put into the Vault in less than three days after I am dead." I bowed assent, for I could not speak. He then looked at me again and said, "Do you understand me? " I replied "Yes." "Tis well" said he. A conflation of the last two quotes has also sometimes been reported as his last statement: "It is well. die hard but am not afraid to go".

Ewe know I love Lamb! Please wander away from the flock?
Do Ewe know how many lunch invitations I've received?
"You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;" Psalm 23:5a

The Shepherd has to prepare well in advance for the different seasons of a sheep's life. The summer is one of those times that requires extra planning for the trek to the highlands, or "tablelands"! The Shepherd must plan a visit prior to the sheep's arrival, to prepare the pastures. First, He must scout out the land for poisonous plants & remove them. Next, he must open up suitable places to drink, by removing all obstructions & debris from the fresh water. Finally, he must select the most lush feeding areas of the "Mesa", for the sheep to graze on, relatively free from the fear of predators. Maybe this "Mesa", the Spanish word for "tables", or "tableland", is what David had in mind when he wrote the Psalm.

"True courage is not the absence of fear—but the willingness to proceed in spite of it."--Unknown
Ewe better be on the look-out! Ewe never know what's out there!
I said I want "Mutton", & I want it NOW!
You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over." Psalm 23:5

Sheep enjoy the higher altitudes in the summer, as well as the lush pastures & mountain springs. It is a welcome change from life in the valley. However, there are challenges that sheep must face in the midst of this beautiful setting. Summer is also known as "fly" time, the time that insects & parasites thrive, & love to "terrorize" livestock! Sheep are subjected to a host of flies, the worst of which, are the dreaded "nasal" flies. They literally drive sheep to often bang their heads against the trees, seeking some relief! The , attentive Shepherd, thankfully, has a "solution" for the proverbial "Fly in the Ointment". He must repeatedly apply to their heads, a mixture of tar, sulfur, spices, & linseed oil, as a remedy to bring some much needed healing & relief.

"If you find a path with no obstacles, it probably doesn’t go anywhere." --Unknown

"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy." -----  -----
Martin  Luther King Jr.

Did Ewe see the movie "The FLY" ? How do Ewe spell Relief? OIL!

During "Rutting" season, the Shepherd greases my horns before "Battle"!

Sheep need the Shepherd's intervention, especially in the summer, when the flies & parasites are swarming! The oil mixture that He applies, brings soothing healing & relief from these annoying pests.
I take all my medical issues to Dr. Shepherd!
I brought my cap for the "Cool" evenings!
As Ewe travel on the path that the Shepherd has prepared for Ewe today, it's comforting to know that if anything starts "bugging" Ewe, the Shepherd has the right "SOLUTION". Happy Trails!

The Ultimate Sheepdog

A Shepherd will sometimes employ assistance in caring for the Sheep. Meet JESS, The Ultimate Sheepdog!

"Some kids just need to be Bottle Fed." 'Hurry!' "My mouth is tired!"

The 10-year-old Springer Spaniel loves to help out in her own special way. She has been trained from an early age to nurture orphaned lambs.

"Come on Lamb Chop, suck it up!"
Owner Louise Moorhouse, who farms on the edge of Dartmoor, in Devon, said that Jess enjoys carrying things around in her mouth. Besides bottles, Jess also carries all sorts of feeding buckets for her flock of Sheep.

"Here, take this bucket. EWE are looking a little Pale!"

She said: "Jess has been around Sheep all of her life and she is not at all frightened of the large ewes."

"So many lambs,so little time!"

Their relationship has become SO close that the Sheep even give her belly rubs, which she loves!

Will ewe stop it! I can't stomach this much longer!
True love for your fellow Sheep births in the Shepherd, a desire to both serve & sacrifice on behalf of the flock. It also initiates an intimacy in relationship that is like no other!

"This is why I live. I really love EWE!"

As Ewe start out Ewe-r day, recall the love & care The Shepherd displays for Ewe. Be at peace, for Ewe-r in good hands!

"We love Him because He first loved us."

Wild Things Matter!

DO EWE know what it FEELS like to be "ON TOP of the WORLD"?
Bighorn Sheep live life in the wild & have some very interesting habits.

Are EWE talking about ME?

SETTLE DOWN, GUYS! EWE know FOOTBALL'S about to START!

IF EWE HAVE to KNOW, I'm meeting with the guys to watch the L.A. RAMS play!

The males, or rams, live as bachelors for most of the year, apart from the females, in small groups of Four or five. Life at the bachelor pad is good, and the rams get along quite well with one another.

I WONDER WHERE are all the GUYS Meeting?

Until mating season hits.

Now it's Every Ram for Himself, as each sharpens his horns & prepares for war!

ARE EWE GUYS READY to BATTLE?

LET me give EWE a "HEAD'S UP"! I'm going to be NUMBER 1!

They pair off, rear up & then Charge each other at 20 miles per hour!

This contest continues for up to 25 hours until a winner emerges.

I'd LIKE to THANK the ACADEMY for RECOGNIZING ME at this TIME!

Females primp and gawk as they prepare for their mating ritual, which will mostly consist of chasing "Mr. Dominant" away!
I can hardly wait to play hard-to-get!
The male has a strange way of flirting, and will sometimes attempt to "kick-start" the dating game by kicking the female, hoping to initiate a chase.

Remember ladies , let's stick together & chase these rams out of here!

After the mating ritual concludes, a ewe will give birth to a lamb that's able to stand after a thorough 20-30 minute licking. This licking, called "owning," both protects the lamb by drying it & also establishes a bond of ownership between mother & child.

I'm living proof that EWE can "take a licking & keep on ticking!"
Although Bighorn Sheep live in the wild without a Shepherd, their Creator equips and enables them to survive, even in spite of THEIR "Peculiar" HABITS!

WE MAY BE WILD, but WE know we're LOVED!!
Wherever you choose to graze today, rest assured that Ewe-r Creator has given you everything you need to survive and thrive.
Happy Trails!

"Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love; therefore with loving kindness have I drawn thee."
Jeremiah 31:3

I "Herd" About EWE...

Adult female sheep are known as ewes...

Ewe can call me "EWE"

The Dynamic Duo at EWE-R Service. We're not from St. Louis!

"Mutton-up Lamb Chop & concentrate on the race!"

...and their offspring are lambs.

Mommy, Daddy, and baby actually prefer sticking close to the other sheep in their flock.

Do Ewe Know the song "Happy Together?"

When the Shepherd is leading, following the herd is a safe bet.
When he's not, well...

How about EWE?

My Sheep hear my voice & I know them & they follow Me.

"Hole"-Ly or "Whole"-Ly Living?

"The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want..."
Psalm 23

Sheep sometimes lose perspective & seek grass that appears to be greener on the other side of the fence!
EWE now that this grass really "TASTES" better!
Their restless nature drives them to "fence crawling"
looking for a hole to escape through!
Can EWE give me a hand? I thin I'm STUCK!

The grass appears "so much greener" on the other side of the fence.

BREAK OUT!!!

However, once there, they discover bare, burned, & inferior grass to munch on!

They call us "The WANDERERS"!

The Good Shepherd selects only the richest pastures to graze in.
Why not leave the "Menu" planning to the Expert!
Happy Grazing!
